Hello fellow Earth Tribers!
When I first started Tiny Earth Tribe, it was with the hope of creating a magical space that honoured the whimsical world of childhood. A place where everything is created intentionally, with children at the heart of it.
As I looked around at the world, I realised that so much of it isn’t designed with children truly in mind. We live in a society that has lost the element of play, magic and whimsy.
Many traditional children's stories were written in a very different time and often relied on fear or control to teach lessons. While there are countless wonderful books available today, I found myself longing for stories that speak to the emotionally aware and deeply curious children we are raising now. Parenting has also changed in so many ways, especially in how we communicate with and respect our children. Many parents today are able to have conscious conversations with their children, making fear-based approaches to parenting far less necessary.
When it comes to children's clothing, I often feel that children's fashion has become a reflection of adult trends rather than a celebration of childhood itself. While there are many beautiful exceptions, I find myself longing for clothing filled with colour, imagination, playful illustrations and the kind of whimsy that feels uniquely childlike. Much of what we see in stores is also shaped by popular media and marketing, with clothing often centred around television shows, movie characters or well-known brands. I simply miss seeing more playful, imaginative designs that celebrate childhood for its own sake.
We have beautiful, modern spaces in our society, but sometimes at the expense of colour, creativity, imagination and warmth. We design and create spaces that don't always cater for children in the way they could.
Now I know it is not all doom and gloom and that there are tons of brands working to counter all the things mentioned above. I just realised that I wanted my contribution to the world to be slightly different, in the sense that I would like to preserve childhood as much as possible and bring colour and magic into our society.
For me, this means being part of a cultural mindset shift, one that encourages us to consider our children more deeply and become more conscious of what they, as the next generation, truly need from us as a society.
Personally, that means connecting to all the children around me, listening to them, and creating from a place of playfulness and consciousness. Not only have I created Tiny Earth Tribe, but I actually live, eat and breathe everything I put out there on my page, which is why share many personal snippets on my page. I want to share how I personally apply everything I write about into my life and the life of my children. My children have been some of my greatest teachers. While they are a huge part of my journey, they are not necessarily the main focus of the page. The childhood I am aiming to create and inspire others to create in their own unique way is the true focus.
I created this page to also initiate this cultural mindset shift into creating a world that is consciousness for children today because, as adults, we have the power to make such a big difference in their world. Tiny Earth Tribe is so much more than another brand. It has helped me reconnect with my own inner child and rediscover the joy of play. I truly believe that when we remember what it feels like to see the world with wonder, we naturally create more magical childhoods for the children around us. It is from that space that I create and I truly love every part of it.
So why am I sharing all of this?
Because I wanted you to know the intention, thought and love behind everything I create.
I want it to be known that Tiny Earth Tribe is not only a children's literature space. We are growing and will continue to grow in many different directions, with our specific niche being childhood. We aim to create sprinkles of rainbow dust in the lives of children and inspiring their caregivers to do the same.
I hope that through my thoughts, my videos and the way I choose to parent and create, you feel inspired to bring a little more wonder into your own home too. Whether that's through a story, a moment of play, a nourishing meal or simply slowing down to see the world through a child's eyes, I hope Tiny Earth Tribe continues to remind you that the little things really do matter.
Since so many of you have been asking about the wholesome snacks I make for the boys, I thought it would be lovely to include one recipe in each newsletter.
This month’s recipe is one of our favourites…
Goji Berry Date Balls 🍒
Ingredients
💚 1 cup goji berries
💚 1 cup Medjool dates, soaked until soft
💚 1 cup almonds
💚 ½ cup desiccated coconut
💚 ½ cup rolled oats
💚 2 teaspoons flaxseed (optional)
💚 2 teaspoons chia seeds (optional)
💚 ⅓ cup cacao powder (optional)
Method
1) Soak the dates until they’re soft, then simply place all of the ingredients into a food processor and blend until the mixture comes together.
2) Roll into bite-sized balls and dust with extra cacao or desiccated coconut.
3) Don’t be afraid to make them your own. I often add a little beetroot powder for an extra nutritional boost, but you could also experiment with hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds or cinnamon.
Why are goji berries considered a superfood?
Goji berries may be tiny, but they’re packed with goodness. They’re naturally rich in antioxidants, which help protect our cells from everyday damage and they’re a wonderful source of vitamin C to support the immune system. They also contain vitamin A for healthy eyes and skin, fibre to support digestion, and small amounts of iron, making them a nourishing addition to everyday snacks.
They’re one of my favourite ingredients because they add a gentle sweetness while bringing an extra burst of nutrition to something the boys already love.
